  • Acoustic Segmentation

  • Based on pauses, typically done using energy detection

  • Obscures any inherent linguistic context

  • Results in acoustic boundaries inside of words

  • Makes the use of LM's less effective

  • Example: uh-huh I guess you've seen some pretty weather up there too

  • Linguistic Segmentation

  • Based on phrasal content, train of thought

  • Utterances may be too long

  • Often results in little or no silence between utterances
