This command invokes the specified editor and ensures that the proper environment has been set up. For example, for the editor emacs (which is the default), an emacs initialization file is executed, the Unix environment variable EDITOR is set, and an X terminal window is started that contains the editor. Various X resources, such as the window title, are also set. The window is displayed using the X Windows environment variable $DISPLAY.

• -tool: sets the type of editor to be invoked (default = emacs)

• This example shows how to invoke an editor using default arguments:

  isip_e /home/user/foo.sh

• This example shows how to invoke an editor using a different editor:

  isip_e -tool mule /home/user/foo.sh

This command uses DISPLAY to display the resulting window. EDITOR, a standard Unix variable, is set. ISIP_HELP_FILE, an internal variable used to locate the help file, is also exported to the environment.

• A unique window index is generated each time an editor is opened. This is stored in the file $HOME/.isip_index.
