1.1.3 Overview: Package Requirements
In general, we attempt to minimize the number of external packages
upon which our software depends. A detailed list of the system
and package requirements for our software can be found on our
system requirements
web page. These external packages are not required to build
the system, but must be added if some additional functionality
is desired (e.g., Microsoft WAV file support).
The list of optional packages used in our environment are:
-
Audio File Library:
an open source package developed by
Silicon Graphics Incorporated (SGI)
that provides support for various
audio file formats including Microsoft WAV.
-
Speech File Manipulation Software (SPHERE):
a package distributed by the National Institute
for Standards and Technology that provides support
for the SPHERE format that is widely used within the
speech research community.
-
Speech Recognition Scoring Package (SCLITE):
a package distributed by the National Institute
for Standards and Technology that provides a standard
way to score speech recognition experiments.
-
Expat XML Parser:
a stream-oriented XML 1.0 parser library, written in
C. Expat was one of the first open source XML parsers
and has been incorporated into many open source projects.
You can follow the above links to learn how to download
and install these packages. Once they have been installed,
see
Section 1.5.1
for instructions how to have these packages included in
your installation and used when building the software.
